Jackass the movie was everything I
expected and less -- stupid, sure. And it is always fun to see a few golf carts destroyed. But the scatological and homeo-erotic aspects of it were pretty weird. It would lead one to believe that some of the jackass patrol are really just very, very repressed gay men covering up for their real feelings by committing macho acts. But the gay tends to show through when (as a group) they do things like shoot bottle rockets out of their butts (literally), attach electrodes to their nuts, as well as a scene where a guy inserted a hot wheel in his ass and went to have it x-rayed for big yuks. There's just this weird vibe of a bunch of guys alone together in a hotel room drinking beer and doing stuff like wrestling with each other, which leads me to the question: WHERE ARE THE LADIES, STUDS? I was listening to NPR and they had some reviewer who said that the Jackass movie was "full of rage from an under-represented and under-recognized minority group of white males"... But I fail to see how the middle-class, white skater/loser community is under-represented, especially given the fact that the whole jackass thing is MTV (Viacom) exploitation and one of the MANY sponsors of the movie is Miller Beer (Philip Morris), but what the fuck do I know? I'm just a sucker who paid $8.75 to watch a guy eat a snow-cone that he made with his own piss. |
