In a discovery made over the weekend, one potential contender looks to be out of the running for this year's Double 500 Rallye. Known only as Team "Vlad" - fielding an early 80's Ford Fairmont - they had been poised to give Team Sproing Pug a run for their money in the "Domestic Piece of Shit" category.

Double 500 officials are questioning the motives behind the recent discovery of fresh front-end damage to Team Vlad's Fairmont, and insist that the extent of these dents goes beyond standard race preparation, making the car impossible to drive for over 2 blocks, much less 200(+) miles. Officials went on to say that the dent "closely fits" the profile of a mid-eighties Pontiac Bonneville, and that such tactics "fit the profile" of Team Sproing Pug.

Nils Levine, speaking on behalf of team Sproing Pug, retorted by saying "this is an obvious set-up to cast dispersion on the reputation of (our team). They know that our car is superior in every way - from the standpoint of oil leakage, questionable handling, loose steering, and even the lack of quality evident in original assembly." Mr. Levine went on to imply that this whole episode was fabricated as a smoke screen to artificially deflate the value of their entry to meet the $500 maximum value rule. "I'm not even sure the damage is more than cosmetic - if (team Vlad) were confident in the skills of their driver, they would be ready to go tomorrow."
