The Spectacle

The California Mille is a 1000 mile "tour" through Northern California backroads for pre-1958 cars similar to those that were eligible for the famous Italian road race, the Mille Miglia. Organized by local vintage car aficionado Martin Swig, the Mille is one of the premier "see and be seen" vintage tours in the United States. hartdtuned.com examines the "spectacle" of the show one day prior to the start of the 2003 California Mille sponsored by Chrysler. There were also cars on display fresh from the Palo Alto Concourse, as well as a hillclimb up Califonia street for pre- WW1 cars early in the day.

Lots of people milling about some impressive cars.

Stealth celebrity sighting: David E Davis Jr.

Wine, cheese, and cocktails.

Hats with hanging flair

Just before this picture was taken, the woman with the bag and light colored skirt had been patting the trunk of the car with her hand which was adorned by what looked to be a 5 lb gold ring.

More wine consumption, and I think the woman behind David E. Davis Jr. is about ready to pick her nose.

Note the dapper fellow in the white coat looking at this 356 speedster: San Francisco Mayor Willy Brown.

Costume Alert: Ready to meet the mayor.

The meeting.

The Shmoozing.

Chrysler sponsored the event, and displayed two enormous concept vehicles.
